The formula to calculate the Infection Rate (IR) is:

\[ IR = \frac{I}{R} \times 100 \]

Where:

Infection Rate Definition

The Infection Rate is a measure of the proportion of individuals who become infected out of the total number of those at risk of infection. It is expressed as a percentage.

Example Calculation

Consider an example where:

Number of Infections (I): 50
Number of Those at Risk (R): 200

Using the formula to calculate the Infection Rate:

\[ IR = \frac{50}{200} \times 100 = 25\% \]

This means that the infection rate for this example is 25%.
