\[ GSM = \frac{Wg \times 10000}{L \times W} \]

Where:

\(W\) is the width of the sample (cm)
\(GSM\) is the grams per square meter (g/m²)

What is GSM?

GSM, short for grams per square meter, is a metric used to describe the weight per unit area of a piece of fabric. This could be used for any piece of material but is most often used in the field of fabric cutting.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Weight of the sample (\(Wg\)) = 50 grams
Length of the sample (\(L\)) = 100 cm
Width of the sample (\(W\)) = 50 cm

Using the formula:

\[ GSM = \frac{50 \times 10000}{100 \times 50} = 100 \]

The GSM of the fabric is 100 g/m².
