To calculate the Shadow Length (L):

\[ L = \frac{H}{\tan(a)} \]

Where:

\(L\) is the length of the shadow
\(H\) is the height of the object
\(a\) is the angle to the source of light (in degrees)

What is the Length of My Shadow?

The length of your shadow depends on how tall you are and where the sun or source of light behind you is in relation to the ground. The lower the angle of the sun, the longer the length of the shadow. Also, the taller you are, the longer the shadow.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Height of Object (\(H\)) = 2 meters
Angle to Light Source (\(a\)) = 45 degrees

Using the formula:

\[ L = \frac{2}{\tan(45)} = 2 \text{ meters} \]

The shadow length is 2 meters.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Height of Object (\(H\)) = 3 meters
Angle to Light Source (\(a\)) = 30 degrees

Using the formula:

\[ L = \frac{3}{\tan(30)} = 5.20 \text{ meters} \]

The shadow length is 5.20 meters.
