To calculate the Relative Density (\(RD\)):

\[ RD = \frac{ds}{dr} \]

Where:

\(RD\) is the Relative Density
\(ds\) is the Density of the Substance (kg/m³)
\(dr\) is the Density of the Reference (kg/m³)

What is Relative Density?

Relative Density is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance. It is a dimensionless quantity and is often used to compare the densities of different materials. The reference substance is typically water for liquids and solids.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Density of the Substance (\(ds\)) = 800 kg/m³
Density of the Reference (\(dr\)) = 1000 kg/m³

Using the formula:

\[ RD = \frac{800}{1000} = 0.8 \]

The Relative Density is 0.8.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Density of the Substance (\(ds\)) = 1200 kg/m³
Density of the Reference (\(dr\)) = 1000 kg/m³

Using the formula:

\[ RD = \frac{1200}{1000} = 1.2 \]

The Relative Density is 1.2.
