Formula

The formula to calculate Net Productivity (NPP) is:

\[ NPP = GPP - R \]

Where:

\( NPP \) is the Net Productivity
\( GPP \) is the Gross Primary Productivity
\( R \) is the Respiration

Example

Let's say we have a Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) of 1000 units and Respiration (R) of 200 units. Using the formula:

\[ NPP = 1000 - 200 = 800 \]

So, the Net Productivity (NPP) would be 800 units.

What is Net Productivity?

Net Productivity (NPP) is the amount of energy that remains after subtracting the energy used for respiration (R) from the total energy produced through gross primary productivity (GPP). It represents the energy available for growth and reproduction in an ecosystem.
