The formula to calculate the drawing force (FD) is:

What is Drawing Force?

Drawing force is the force required to draw a wire or a rod through a forming die. Drawing is a metalworking process that uses tensile forces to stretch metal or glass.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Mean Circumference of the Shell ((C)) = 10 inches
Stock Thickness ((T)) = 0.5 inches
Tensile Strength ((S)) = 50 lbf/in²

Using the formula:

\[ FD = C \times T \times S = 10 \times 0.5 \times 50 = 250 \]

The Drawing Force ((FD)) is 250 lbf.
