Watts to VA Calculator

Calculate Apparent Power (VA)

Formula

To calculate the apparent power (\(VA\)):

\[ VA = \frac{W}{PF} \]

Where:

What is Watts to VA?

Watts (W) and Volt-Amps (VA) are both units of measurement for electrical power. Watts measure real power, which is the actual power consumed by a device to perform work. Volt-Amps measure apparent power, which is the product of the voltage and current supplied to the circuit. The power factor is a unitless number between 0 and 1 that represents the ratio of the real power that is used to do work and the apparent power that is supplied to the circuit.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ VA = \frac{500}{0.8} = 625 \text{ VA} \]

The apparent power is 625 VA.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ VA = \frac{300}{0.9} = 333.33 \text{ VA} \]

The apparent power is 333.33 VA.
