The formula to calculate the Stocking Rate is:

\[ SR = \frac{AF}{\frac{LB}{M}} \]

Where:

\(SR\) is the stocking rate (animals per month per acre)
\(AF\) is the available forage (lbs per acre)
\(LB/M\) is the lbs eaten per month per animal

What is Stocking Rate?

The stocking rate is a measure used in agriculture to determine the number of animals that can be grazed on a particular piece of land for a specific period of time. It is calculated using the available forage and the amount of forage that an animal eats per month.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Available Forage (AF) = 2000 lbs per acre
Lbs Eaten Per Month per Animal (LB/M) = 920 lbs

Using the formula:

\[ SR = \frac{2000}{920} = 2.1739 \text{ animals per month per acre} \]

The Stocking Rate is 2.1739 animals per month per acre.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Available Forage (AF) = 1500 lbs per acre
Lbs Eaten Per Month per Animal (LB/M) = 800 lbs

Using the formula:

\[ SR = \frac{1500}{800} = 1.875 \text{ animals per month per acre} \]

The Stocking Rate is 1.875 animals per month per acre.
