What is Step 1 Percentile?

This percentile is used by residency programs to compare applicants and determine their knowledge in basic science material.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Step 1 Score (S) = 240
Mean Step 1 Score (M) = 230
Standard Deviation of Step 1 Scores (SD) = 20

Using the formula to calculate the Step 1 Percentile (P):

\[ P = \frac{S - M}{SD} = \frac{240 - 230}{20} = \frac{10}{20} = 0.50 \]
