What is Reverb Time?

Reverb time, also known as reverberation time or RT60, is a measure of the time it takes for the sound to decay by 60 decibels after the source of the sound has stopped. It is a key factor in the acoustics of a room or space, affecting how we perceive sound in that environment. Longer reverb times can make a room sound more echoey or hollow, while shorter reverb times can make it sound more dead or flat.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Volume of the room (V) = 100 m³
Total absorption of the room (A) = 50 sabins

Using the formula:

\[ T = 0.1611 \times \frac{100}{50} = 0.3222 \, \text{seconds} \]

The Reverb Time (T) is 0.32 seconds.
