The formula for calculating the Relative Error is:

\[ RE = \frac{|AV - MV|}{AV} \times 100 \]

Where:

\( RE \) is the relative error (%)
\( AV \) is the actual value
\( MV \) is the measured value

What is Relative Error?

Relative error is a measure of how close a measured value is to the true theoretical value. In the case of chemistry, this could be the measured mass compared to the actual mass of a reaction. It is often used to assess the accuracy of measurements and experiments.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Actual Value (AV) = 100
Measured Value (MV) = 95

Using the formula to calculate the Relative Error:

\[ RE = \frac{|100 - 95|}{100} \times 100 = \frac{5}{100} \times 100 = 5\% \]

The Relative Error is 5%.
