The formula to calculate the Prandtl Number (P) is:

Where:

What is Prandtl Number?

A Prandtl number is a ratio of the momentum diffusivity to thermal diffusivity. It is used in fluid dynamics and heat transfer to characterize the relative thickness of the velocity boundary layer to the thermal boundary layer.

Example Calculation

Consider an example where:

Dynamic Viscosity (n): 0.001 kg·m⁻¹·s⁻¹
Specific Heat Capacity (Cp): 1000 J·kg⁻¹·K⁻¹
Thermal Conductivity (Tc): 0.6 W·m⁻¹·K⁻¹

Using the formula to calculate the Prandtl Number:

\[ P = \frac{0.001 \cdot 1000}{0.6} \approx 1.67 \]

This means that the Prandtl number for this example is approximately 1.67.
