Formula

The formula to calculate the Human Development Index (HDI) is:

\[ HDI = (I_h \cdot I_e \cdot I_i)^{1/3} \]

Where:

\( HDI \) is the Human Development Index
\( I_h \) is the Health Index
\( I_e \) is the Education Index
\( I_i \) is the Income Index

What is HDI?

HDI stands for the Human Development Index. It’s a measure used to rank the human development of given countries. In other words, this can be used to distinguish between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Health Index (Ih) = 0.8
Education Index (Ie) = 0.7
Income Index (Ii) = 0.6

Using the formula to calculate the HDI:

\[ HDI = (0.8 \cdot 0.7 \cdot 0.6)^{1/3} \approx 0.68 \]

The Human Development Index (HDI) is approximately 0.68.
