HbA1c to Percentage Calculator

Convert HbA1c Values

Formula

To convert HbA1c values:

From Percentage to mmol/mol:

\[ HbA1c_{mmol/mol} = (HbA1c_{\%} \times 1.198) - 2.15 \]

From mmol/mol to Percentage:

\[ HbA1c_{\%} = \frac{HbA1c_{mmol/mol} + 2.15}{1.198} \]

What is HbA1c?

HbA1c, also known as glycated hemoglobin, is a form of hemoglobin that is chemically linked to a sugar. It is used primarily to identify the average plasma glucose concentration over prolonged periods of time. The HbA1c test is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes and to monitor how well you’re managing your diabetes. The higher your HbA1c level, the poorer your blood sugar control and the higher your risk of diabetes complications.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following value:

Using the formula to convert to mmol/mol:

\[ HbA1c_{mmol/mol} = (7 \times 1.198) - 2.15 = 6.23 \text{ mmol/mol} \]

The HbA1c value in mmol/mol is 6.23.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following value:

Using the formula to convert to percentage:

\[ HbA1c_{\%} = \frac{50 + 2.15}{1.198} = 43.56 \% \]

The HbA1c value in percentage is 43.56%.
