What is Field Density Test?

The Field Density Test (FDT) is a measure of the density of soil in the field, accounting for the moisture content. It is used to ensure that the soil has been compacted to the required density for construction purposes.

Formula

The formula to calculate the Field Density Test is:

Where:

\(\text{FDT}\) is the Field Density Test (pcf)
\(\text{WD}\) is the Wet Density (pcf)
\(\text{MC}\) is the Moisture Content (pcf)

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Wet Density (WD) = 120 pcf
Moisture Content (MC) = 10 pcf

Using the formula:

\[ \text{FDT} = 120 - 10 = 110 \text{ pcf} \]

The Field Density Test result is 110 pcf.
