Calculate Face Velocity

Formula

To calculate the face velocity:

\[ FV = \frac{AF}{FA} \]

Face Velocity Definition

Face velocity is a measure of the speed of the air moving through the inlet or outlet of an HVAC system. It is calculated by dividing the air flow rate by the face area through which the air passes.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ FV = \frac{1200}{40} = 30 \text{ ft/s} \]

The face velocity is 30 ft/s.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Using the formula:

\[ FV = \frac{500}{25} = 20 \text{ ft/s} \]

The face velocity is 20 ft/s.
