What is Degree of Saturation?

The degree of saturation measures the proportion of the void space in a soil that is filled with water. It is an important parameter in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Total Volume of Water (WV): 10 ft³
Total Volume of Voids (VV): 20 ft³

Using the formula to calculate the degree of saturation:

\[ DOS = \frac{10}{20} \times 100 = 50 \% \]

The degree of saturation is 50%.
