$\text{C}$ is the Total Cost of the material ($)
$\text{W}$ is the Weight of the material (lbs)

What is Cost Per Ton?

Cost per ton is a unit of measure most often used in manufacturing and business to describe the cost of a material per ton of weight of that material.

Example Calculation 1

Let's assume the following values:

Total Cost (C) = $5000
Weight of Material (W) = 10000 lbs

Step 1: Use the formula:

\[ \text{CPT} = \frac{5000}{\left(\frac{10000}{2000}\right)} = \frac{5000}{5} = 1000 \]

The Cost Per Ton is $1000 per ton.

Example Calculation 2

Let's assume the following values:

Total Cost (C) = $7500
Weight of Material (W) = 15000 lbs

Step 1: Use the formula:

\[ \text{CPT} = \frac{7500}{\left(\frac{15000}{2000}\right)} = \frac{7500}{7.5} = 1000 \]

The Cost Per Ton is $1000 per ton.
