Average Cost Basis Definition

An average cost basis is defined as the average cost of a fund or stock per share of the fund owned. That is the amount you paid per share on average.

Example Calculation

Let's assume the following values:

Total Amount Invested $ TI $ = $10,000
Total Number of Shares Owned $ S $ = 200

Step 1: Use the average cost basis formula:

\[ ACB = \frac{TI}{S} = \frac{10000}{200} = 50 \]

The Average Cost Basis is $50 per share.
